Walled City Neighbourhood Project
We propose to develop within the walled city a neighbourhood made up of people from many different backgrounds who want to live together as a celebration of cultural diversity. This idea has been developed and changed over the past few years as we were engaged in a process of consultation and listening.
New Light From Old Gates
We can learn from other parts of the world and we also have our own unique solutions to our particular problems. We also have much to teach others. Already much preparatory work has been undertaken in oder to bring this vision to reality.
This idea is based on the following premises and we are promoting it as an articulation of the new society which we need to develop to help realise our full potential as a community, a city and as citizens of the 21st Century
Given the chance, people want to live together in a safe secure shared space.
People want to see such a development as part of everyday living.
Derry/ Londonderry has an important role in the creation of new ways of living together.
A development such as this needs to be simple and straightforward yet have a multi- layered approach which connects with people from all backgrounds and not just the two main traditions.
People want an agreed future in which each is respected and celebrated. At this moment in time we do not have any models of good practice.
