Dr Shelley Deane, ARINS Project, to take part in next Forward Thinking workshop, Wed 3rd Dec 7pm
Our next Forward Thinking workshop will take place on Wednesday 3rd December at 7pm in Holywell Trust. The guest contributor will be Dr Shelley Deane.
Shelley is a Research Fellow North South Programme, Dept of Law and Government, Dublin College University (DCU). She is also Co-editor of the Journal of Irish Studies in International Affairs, and Analysing and Researching Ireland, North and South (ARINS) project member.
She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the London School of Economics; M.A. International Relations (Security Studies) University of Warwick; BSoc.Sci. Social Anthropology, University of Manchester.
Shelley will be discussing the findings of a new ARINS Research Project- Constitutional visions from the grassroots.
“The debate over a possible united Ireland polarises nationalists and unionists and leaves many people disengaged. ‘Constitutional visions from the grassroots’ uses deliberative democracy to move beyond identity politics and find a shared vision for our constitutional future. Working with groups of women in deliberative cafés across the border, the project set out to allow communities to identify shared problems and values, and articulate convergent visions for the future.”
Principal Project Investigators: Jennifer Todd, UCD; Joanne McEvoy, U Aberdeen; Shelley Deane, DCU
